Waste Management is the third English-language studio album, and the sixth studio album overall, by the Russian duo t.A.T.u.. It is the English version of Vesyolye Ulybki. The album was released in December 15, 2009 on iTunes and in January 2010 in physical form in Russia and Latin America.
The digital version of the album is available in two versions, both containing the same songs. One version is called the "Track by Track" version, which includes each song as a separate track. The other version is the "Single Track" or "Transcendent Version", in which all of the songs are segued together without any intermediate gaps in between them.[6] The physical CD release features the "Transcendent Version" only and is featured on their official store webpage.
With this release the group moved from the pop rock music into more electronic dance music genres. The band released three promotional singles from the album: Snowfalls, released in July 13, 2009 on iTunes and the video promoting it on MTV Baltic, White Robe, released in November 10, 2009 on MTV Brasil and Sparks, released in April 13, 2010 on MTV Brasil and Latin America.
A remix album titled "Waste Management Remixes" was released on March 29, 2011 shortly before the group disbanded.

The production of Waste Management was done in Moscow, Russia. It is the English counterpart of their 3rd Russian album Vesyolye Ulybki. It was their 2nd release from their own record label T.A. Music. It was produced by there new producers from T.A. Music, Billy Steinberg, Josh Alexander, Sergio Galoyan and exclusive producer Boris Renski.
The tracks "Fly on the Wall", "Waste Management", "Running Blind", "You and I" and "Marsianskie Glaza" were featured on the Russian album in the same language (or instrumental) and remain unchanged apart from the interludes. It was later said it would be released on December 15, 2009. On iTunes, the remix tracks "Beliy Plaschik [Fly_Dream Remix]" and "Ne Zhaley [Sniper Remix], which were not recorded in English, are listed with the English names "White Robe [Fly_Dream Remix]" and "Don't Regret [Sniper Remix]".
"Marsianskie Glaza" was also not recorded in English and the album featured the Russian version instead. The music for "Time of the Moon" was leaked online before the album was set for release. It had different lyrics and was performed by Lena Katina. "You and I", "Waste Management", and "Running Blind" have also been released online as their demo versions.
It was the first time the band recorded English for the first time under their own record label. The album was up for a physical release on December 15, 2009. However this was not met as their label was only a Moscow-based production label. The label had music rights to release the physical album in South America under the label Coqueiro Verde Records. The band released the album worldwide on iTunes, but most fans wanted the compact disc rather than the digital download. Imports for the disc were allowed under the music rights of T.A. Music.
Waste Management was released in Australia first, then in United States, Japan, France, Germany, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Mexico on December 1, 2009 by TA Music. The album was later released in Russia in Compact Disc on January 1, 2010 and later released in South America.
Bonus tracks:
Waste Management was also released as a non-stop version called the Transcendent Version. This version is one track running (only in the digital release) slightly over an hour. Interludes placed between each track make the album sound continuous. This version also includes the bonus tracks without the interludes between them. Lena Katina calls this version "one continuous music trip" and says Pink Floyd was the main influence in the creation of this version.[9]
A CD of the Transcendent Version is available on the tatu.ru website.[10]
Bonus Tracks:
Most of the tracks are longer than the standard version due to the interludes added to tracks 2-11.
